Three 'Must Have' Book Titles for Leaders of Mega Projects

There are many books on strategic business management, but very few that are dedicated to the world of mega projects, but none on the needs of an owner/promoter as the mega project client.

In 2020, I decided to author and publish three tutorial books in a series to compliment my Executive CPD Program, namely, The Role of the Client; System Methodology, and Funding Mastery. Why these subjects I hear you say? Well because historically, clients have seen their role change from oversee'r to leader, with dramatic effects. Clients, be they owners or promoters of mega projects, have become more responsible for all project outcomes and with that, more accountable for there perceived failures, be they economic, social, or environmental. This makes strategic management mega project expertise, a 'must have' for all 'budding' future leaders of a multi-billion dollar investment.

More and more client organisations are becoming 'smarter' and changing their approach to mega project structures. They are recognising that inclusive collaboration as 'intelligent' users of key resources, and adapted best practice methodologies, that puts them on the 'front line' as part of the project team. No longer can a mega project client be a 'passive' onlooker and hide behind the terms of a contracts blame culture. We live in a fully transparent world where public opinion matters. The time has come for mega project clients to be seen as the intelligent owner/promoter with an 'added value' mentality...as the informed, intelligent executive project sponsor.

The first of these books (The Role of the Client) will provide you with insight from my own extensive mega project experiences and how you can use alternative, proven management techniques, to improve your personal performance as a project leader and key decision maker. The content includes best practice teachings and case studies on client sponsorship; executive leadership; project governance; strategic procurement; performance improvement; and organisational strategy.

The second book in this series (System Methodology) looks at how to manage the three investment phases of a mega project in strategic planning, program development, and project implementation. It includes detailed sub-process guidance for the Client Executive Sponsor on management components; vertical connectivity interfaces; stage-gateway hold points; input/output criteria; and best practice templates for key activity milestones.

The last book in the series (Funding Mastery) looks into the importance of raising funds of mega projects. From the many different forms available in traditional project finance, to turnkey concessions, and alternative structures. We examine the origins, the players, and benefits of each funding route to give you a clear understanding and 'mastery'. The content includes the origins of project finance; the funding structures of past mega projects; processes involved; and analysis.
